Kate Joseph now offers innovative, clinical-grade listening therapIes The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and the Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP), at Albany Health in Woodbridge, Suffolk.
What are SSP and RRP ?
The Safe and Sound Protocol™ (SSP) and Rest and Restore Protocol™ (RRP) are both sound-based listening therapies from Unyte Health created to help regulate the nervous system. Coming from the work of Dr Stephen Porges and Polyvagal Theory, they both use specially filtered music, listened to through headphones, to work directly with the autonomic nervous system. autism and attention and learning differences.
Safe and Sound Protocol™ (SSP) functions as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator to open up the pathways for social engagement and restore the nervous system’s ability to feel safe, regulated, and connected with others. om the point of view of PolyVagal Theory, it is working with the Ventral Vagal branch of the parasympathetic nervous system supporting social engagement. SSP is PARTICULARLY helpful used by providers supporting clients with trauma, anxiety, autism, depression, and more.
Rest and Restore Protocol™ (RRP) is a new advancement in listening therapies from Sonocea®, designed to entrain with the deeper body systems to reduce stuckness and increase flexibility and flow, promoting deep restoration and self regulation. From the point of view of PolyVagal Theory, it is working with the Dorsal Vagal branch of the parasympathetic nervous system.
Who tends to find these therapies useful?
I'm seeing SSP and RRP make a difference with
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Sleep difficulties or a "wired but tired" pattern
- Trauma and nervous system dysregulation
- Sensory sensitivities, including in children with autism or ADHD
- Difficulty feeling calm, safe or socially connected
- Burnout, or a nervous system that's been stuck in fight-or-flight for too long
Because the work happens through the ears and the autonomic nervous system rather than through talking or physical manipulation, it sits well alongside other approaches — whether that's bodywork, counselling, or something else already part of your care.
What a session looks like
Sessions are delivered through headphones over a series of short listening periods, in-clinic together or remotely, in session or independently with check ins to monitor and adjust pace according to how your body responds. There's no forcing the process, regulation happens at the pace your nervous system allows.
SSP and RRP are now available at Albany Health, in Woodbridge with Psychotherapist Kate Joseph. Get in touch directly with Kate to ask questions or arrange a consultation katejosephtherapy@gmail.com
